Esther Pena was raised in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas Pan-American (presently UTRGV). She became a bilingual elementary teacher for several years but decided on a change of career and attended Thurgood Marshall School of Law. While in law school, Esther served as a student attorney with the Innocence Project under the Earl Carle Institute for Legal & Social Policy that reviews and pursues claims of actual innocence. Esther also interned with a prominent criminal law firm in Houston, Texas. Esther became a licensed attorney in 2013 and secured employment as a government attorney with the Department of Family and Protective Services where she represented the State of Texas in complex legal cases. She later became a Policy Attorney for the State of Texas that focused on reviewing, drafting and interpreting federal and state laws, regulations and legislation. She also worked with the Office of the Attorney General as an Assistant Attorney General and most recently served as In-House Counsel as Deputy City Attorney in Mission, Texas. Esther has developed a broad range of legal expertise over the span of 10 years as a practicing attorney and has stellar legal skills that enables her to draft pleadings, prepare motions, negotiate settlements and analyze complex legal issues.

From the onset of a case, Esther puts herself in the shoes of her clients and seeks to advocate for them in an ethical manner. Esther recognizes that seeking legal representation can be daunting, especially after experiencing a traumatic event. She strives to provide quality, innovative legal representation by building strong relationships and takes a personable and empathetic approach with her clients. She believes it’s important to keep her clients fully informed and advised during all steps of their case.

Esther prides herself in balancing her legal career while being a mother to her four (very active) young sons. She loves being a “boy mom” and enjoys watching her sons play sports, traveling with her husband, and loves to bake any chance she gets.
